Products > Cubes and Clamping Towers
We manufacture Cast Iron Cubes for Machine Tools and Clamping Towers, new and made to measure, to improve workpiece placement and machining conditions. Do you have specific requirements? Contact us now, we will get back to you as soon as possible!
Clamping Cubes (or parallelepipeds, , also known as tombstones) are generally used on both small and large milling machines, as well as on boring machines and machining centres, to improve workpiece positioning or machining conditions. They can be supplied either single-face, with orthogonal planes or multi-face, depending on production requirements.
Like all Machine Tool Accessories, the purchase perspective must follow a logic of improvement of the characteristics of the machining itself (elimination of vibrations, change of the working plane, reduction in the number of set-ups per piece).
Clamping Cubes for Machine Tools
Generally, Bonanomi's Clamping Cubes for Machine Tools are produced with T-slots, according to DIN 650 standard, or with a grid of threaded holes (threaded hole + H7 counterbore for hardened jig bushing) according to requirements.
Like most of our Precision Mechanical Products, the Clamping Cubes are made of G25 Cast Iron with a lamellar structure, thermally stress-relieved by slow cooling of the casting in the flask.
Clamping Towers
We also manufacture Clamping Towers — the vertical fixtures commonly referred to as tombstones in machining workshops — which consist of Monolithic Structures in G25 Cast Iron, executed with two opposed vertical T-slotted faces, very useful especially on large boring machines or in any case on machines that use rotating tables, such as palletised machining centres.
The Clamping Towers can replace the Clamping Squares thanks to the presence of an additional plane that can be used only if the table rotation is present.
The Towers and Cubes for machine tools are customised in terms of size according to the requirements of each individual customer, in order to guarantee maximum product flexibility.
As an alternative to our standard Precision Mechanics Products shown in the catalogue, G.Bonanomi can manufacture made-to-measure metal cubes in any overall dimensions, using any material, in order to better comply with the needs and requests of the final customer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are clamping cubes and tombstones the same thing?
Largely, yes. In English-speaking workshops, the multi-face vertical fixtures mounted on the pallets of horizontal machining centres are commonly called tombstones. Our clamping cubes and clamping towers cover the same function: holding the workpiece in the correct machining position, on one or more faces, without multiplying set-ups.
What is the difference between a clamping cube and an angle plate?
A cube is a parallelepiped with one or more machined faces, and lets you orient the workpiece on several sides within the same set-up. An angle plate has a single vertical face, square to the base to DIN 875. On machines with table rotation, the clamping tower performs both functions.
Why G25 cast iron rather than fabricated steel?
Because the lamellar structure of cast iron absorbs the vibrations generated during chip removal, while a fabricated steel structure tends to transmit them. The difference shows on the surface finish of the machined part and on tool life.
Do you manufacture non-standard sizes?
Yes. Besides the catalogue sizes, we manufacture any overall dimensions to customer specification, including materials other than cast iron. Contact us for a proposal.
